- About the Artist-

Rebecca Mann was raised in Sugarhouse, Utah, and even as a small child, she displayed an interest and a natural talent in art.

While in high school, Rebecca won a scholarship to the Famous Artists School in Westport, Connecticut. Midlife, she opened an Art and Framing Gallery in an old historical barn located on Main Street in Farmington Utah. For ten years, she did a lot of framing, taught art classes and displayed multiple artists' work in her gallery. In order to devote more time to her persistent desire to paint uninterrupted, she closed the gallery and now uses it as her studio.

She states her thoughts on her art:

In order to be honest with myself, I must paint. Painting is an adventure. I love the spontaneity and fluidness of watercolor.
Its unpredictable nature often dictates its own terms. At the same time, oils tempt me to explore their realm of possibilities.
A good deal of my work is commissioned work; therefore, my style varies considerably. While some pieces are representative of the subject, others are implied or impressionistic.

Some paintings are charted and planned from the beginning; others just evolve. Some are belabored and others just come together.

When doing a commissioned painting, I particularly enjoy visiting my client's home or business. I usually make several trips during the process of developing the idea for the painting. It is a challenge to tap into people's personalities and environment and portray an accurate expression of them, while at the same time, pleasing myself.

By the time a painting is completed, I have discovered many thoughts and ideas that would not have come to life without the interaction of the client. It is a good feeling to see the final destination of a painting as it is hung in its new home. The recipient also enjoys knowing the painting was done especially for them.

Rebecca's diverse subjects include still lifes, landscapes, florals and portraiture. While many of her paintings are in her favorite medium of watercolor, she enjoys and is proficient in oils, pencil and other mixed media. Her paintings are found in numerous private collections throughout Utah and around the country. At one time, she did a series of historical pictorial maps of Farmington, Centerville, Clark Lane, Davis County and an English cottage all of which have been published as signed, limited edition prints.

Rebecca's artwork has been exhibited at the Springville Art Museum, Bountiful Davis Art Center, Myra Powell Art Gallery 2002, Celebration of Art & Soup 2002, Days of '47 Fine Arts Show 2001, 2002, and Wilkerson Fine Art Gallery in Huntsville, Utah.

Rebecca is a member of the Utah Watercolor Society, and currently resides and works at her home and studio in Farmington, Utah.
